Geneva launchdestined for
JeepRenegadeshowcar
2 March 2015 | OEM
The Renegade Hard Steel Jeep showcar, which blends style, off-road vocation, and
technology, will be making its debut and the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show.
Created by the Jeep brand, in
collaboration with the Mopar brand
and backed by the FCA Style Centre,
the showcar “explores” the potential
of a model that provides countless
customisation options,
while
also
providing an outlook for potential future
Mopar accessories dedicated to the new
Renegade.
Based on the Trailhawk - the off-road
version of the range - the prototype is not
a simple customisation in aftermarket but
a design project that, with due respect
to the peculiarities of original models,
has led to the creation of a unique and
fascinating article.
The “technological” aspect of the
showcar is attained aesthetically with a
Brushed Steel livery, a bodywork treatment
that evokes cutting-edge aviation and
marine technology. All enhanced by a
matte black colour contrast used for many
of the features such as the grid, roof
bars, mirror covers, 16” alloy wheels, side
rubbing strips, bonnet air vents, fenders
and bumpers.
The same strong customisation is
found in the interior where the Brushed
Steel treatment embellishes the frames
of the air conditioning vents, gearbox,
glove compartment and audio speakers.
Stylistic details that go perfectly with
the light grey tone stitching of the seats,
the door panels and the Trailhawk logo
embroidered on the headrests.
Special mention goes to the Renegade
Hard Steel upholstery proposed in a
precious Frau Century lead-coloured
leather: an absolute novelty in the
automotive field. In particular, the high-
quality coating, designed to celebrate
the brand’s 1912 centenary, has been
accomplished through a long and intricate
craftsmanship. The final result provides a
soft and warm touch, along with a worn
look of great exquisiteness: small but
perceptible changes in the nuances of
texture that uniquely line each piece.
Metropolitan appearance for a model
that is no stranger to the most extreme
escapades. The Renegade Hard Steel
showcar adopts larger BF Goodrich All
Terrain tyres, raised suspension, skid
plate engraved with “Trailhawk” and
bonnet performance. Made all the more
attractive by the presence of original
accessories such as a Mopar grille and
opaque black mirror covers, black running
board, floor mats and towbar. The latter is
connected to the trailer that incorporates
the vehicle “vitamin-enriched” design and
becomes an “internet hotspot” thanks to
the Wi-Fi developed by Mopar, always as
an original accessory dedicated to the
Renegade.
Within the trailer, a touch screen
display shows all the features of the
new Uconnect LIVE system, a service
platform that allows access to Internet
Music (Deezer), Internet Radio (TuneIn),
News (Reuters), real time Traffic (Tom Tom
LIVE) as well as Social Network (Facebook
and Twitter). Available from June on
Renegade model - it is the first Jeep
vehicle to provide this - the sophisticated
infotainment system adopts UconnectTM
5 “or 6.5” touch screens ensuring access
to radio, mediaplayer, handsfree phone,
navigation device and UconnectTM LIVE
services.
Finally, the original “appendage” of
the Renegade Hard Steel showcar is
provided with speakers that make it a
real “entertainment station”: through
the collaboration of Jeep and Deezer,
in Geneva the public can preview the
Renegade Playlist, 25 music tracks that
evoke the true spirit of the strongly
suggestive
unconventional
and
adventurous new Jeep model.

The highly prestigious award has long been
considered a quality seal for excellence in
design, and it was accepted in Munich by
Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design.
The new Passat Saloon has received
the 2015 iF gold award in the “Product”
discipline.
The international award committee,
which consisted of 53 judges from 20
countries, gave the new Passat Saloon its
highly coveted top rating in the “Automobile
/ Vehicles / Bikes” category. The award
committee explained its decision as follows:
“Reinterpreting such a classic brand
requires a great deal of sensitivity. We were
fascinated by the consistency – in the sense
of ‘form follows function’ – with which the
pure and expressive design language has
been applied throughout the whole concept,
in both the interior and exterior. The
Volkswagen Passat unites minimalism with
strong detailing. Practical use is combined
with the highest level of elegance.”
The eight generation Passat made its
debut last year with new technologies and
engines as well as a new expressive design.
Thanks to advanced engineering methods, it
was possible to design the car’s proportions
to be very dynamic – with a low body, long
wheelbase and large wheels. The latest
assistance and infotainment systems make
the Passat one of the most innovative models
in its class. The Passat GTE – the first Passat
to feature a plug-in hybrid drive – will arrive
at dealerships beginning in late summer of
this year. Its power and torque are utilised in
an extremely eco-friendly and efficient way.
The car’s NEDC fuel consumption (for hybrid
vehicles) is less than 2.0 l/100 km and 13.0
kWh/100 km; these values equate to CO2
emissions of less than 45 g/km.
Along with the gold award for the Passat
Saloon, other cars recognised at this year’s
iF Design awards include the Passat Estate,
Golf Sportsvan and Golf R

EngineSpecial Edition inGeneva
2 March 2015 | OEM
Volvo Cars has unveiled a D5 Twin Engine Special Edition of its bestselling V60 Twin Engine
plug-in hybrid. The new car will take the established Volvo Cars plug-in hybrid solution to
a wider audience.
“We were the first car maker to develop
and produce a diesel-based plug-in hybrid
powertrain with the launch of the V60 D6
in 2012. Since then we have been working
on further refining our innovative approach
to electrification and hybrid powertrains,
as can be seen in our brand new XC90
T8 Twin Engine which is just entering full-
scale production. With the launch of the
V60 D5 Twin Engine Special Edition we
are broadening our Twin Engine product
range,” said Dr. Thomas Müller, Vice
President Electrical and Electronics Systems
Engineering at Volvo Car Group.
The V60 D5 Twin Engine will deliver 120
kW via the combustion engine and about
50 kW from its 11.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery
pack using the same proven configuration
used in the V60 D6 Twin Engine. This
translates to a maximum driveline power
output of approximately 230 hp when the
electric motor and diesel engine are working
simultaneously.
“We decided to offer a special edition
of the V60 D5 Twin Engine to celebrate
the growing success and continued roll-
out of our Twin Engine product range. We
are one of few car makers that deliver a
true no compromise driving experience –
combining the benefits of pure electric drive,
high performance and great fuel economy,”
added Dr. Thomas Müller.
The Special Edition is delivered with
Crystal White exterior paint, 19-inch wheels
and glossy black exterior detailing. Inside,
the car is equipped with a black headliner
and piano black trim. The V60 D5 Special
Edition will also feature the unique Blond
sport seat upholstery with decorative white
stitching as seen in our Volvo Ocean Race
editions.
Just 500 examples of the special edition
model will be built, while a regular V60 D5
Twin Engine will be more widely available
later this spring.
