Dürr creates paint shop for electric vehicles in China

Dürr is currently building a fully automatic paint shop for a new JAC (Anhui Jianghuai Automobile) plant which will produce battery-powered cars on behalf of a local electric car manufacturer in the future.

The vehicles will be given a modern two-tone color design in the fully automatic Dürr paint shop.

The plant in Hefei combines advanced vehicle drives with intelligent plant technology and modern painting concepts. The entire plant including data acquisition, data evaluation, and plant monitoring is controlled by the Dürr software solution iTAC.MES.Suite. The modular MES system provides detailed information on the production workflows and the consumption data at all times.

The painting line itself consists of a primer station as well as one interior and two exterior painting stations for the top coat. Here the bodies are removed in some cases and returned to the top coat line for the two-tone roof painting. The final clear coat is also applied in fully automatic interior and exterior painting stations. In order to reduce the solvent emissions as much as possible, the exhaust air flow is purified, not only from the clear coat booths, but also from the paint mixing rooms.

Usually the painting process generates particularly large volumes of exhaust air which only contain low amounts of contaminants. For this reason, a highly efficient VOC adsorption concentration system (Ecopure KPR) with a downstream thermal exhaust air control system (Ecopure TAR) should be installed. The energy required for the Ecopure KPR system's desorption air is recovered from the purified gas of the thermal exhaust air purification system. This reduces the energy requirement. The highly efficient Dürr Ecopure exhaust air purification system reduces the solvent emissions by more than 95% and thereby ensures that the especially stringent emission limits are not exceeded.

The system therefore ensures that each individual oven zone is optimally and individually supplied with air at all times, and combines energy efficiency and consistently high paintwork quality. The exhaust air from the ovens is purified via the integrated Ecopure TAR afterburning system with heat recovery and then made available again for the oven heating system.

Accuride expands North American distribution network, improves lead times

Accuride Corporation has announced that it has strategically extended its North American Distribution network to provide targeted customer coverage in key regional markets and offer aftermarket customers the full range of Accuride wheels and KIC and Gunite-brand wheel end components.

Acquiring wheel and wheel end component supplier KIC in May 2017 has enabled Accuride to further strengthen its network of distribution centres to supply customer locations across North America. Through an in-depth analysis of its combined customer ship-to locations, purchasing patterns, product stocking requirements and lane optimisation, Accuride has strategically realigned its distribution resources to more efficiently serve its customers in North America.

During the first quarter of 2018, Accuride will quickly phase in operation of five additional North American Distribution centres, augmenting its primary Batavia, Illinois, distribution facility. Nearly all facilities in the optimised network will offer customers the opportunity to order mixed-load shipments of Accuride wheels and KIC and Gunite-brand wheel end components. More importantly, the network's regionally targeted footprint and inventory stocking plan will allow Accuride to offer reduced lead times on the majority of its high volume products across industry channels.

"Combining the complimentary product and technology offerings of Accuride, KIC and Gunite this year enables us to provide customers a greater range of solutions than ever before," Accuride President and CEO Rick Dauch said. "With our expanded distribution network, our products will be available when and where customers need them, on shorter, competitive lead times for our most popular, in-demand products."

Nishino (55), currently the CEO of Falken Tyre Europe, a position he has held since April 2015 will start the new role on January 1st, 2018. Having joined SRI in 1984, Nishino has previously held positions as CEO of SRI's largest sales office in Tokyo and vice-president of operations in Turkey and has, over the past two and half years, played an instrumental role in Falken's expansion in Europe, notably the rise of OE contracts and the acquisition of Micheldever Tyre Services in 2017. Nishino's successor has been named as Mr Mitsuteru Tanigawa, who will assume the role from January 2018.

"Falken Tyre Europe warmly thanks Nishino-San for his strong leadership and the positive impact he made on the growth of the business here," said Markus Bogner, managing director of Falken Tyre Europe. "Masatsugu's time here will be remembered fondly by the staff and customers for his sportsman-like approach to business, a legacy of his passion for sport as well as his focus on communicating, speaking to each and every member of the team regularly. We wish him well in the new role."

"I have really enjoyed my time in Germany and playing a part in the development of Falken Tyre Europe," said Nishino. "The team has worked very hard and as a result has delivered considerable success. I will miss their enthusiasm, but I look forward to my new challenge in Turkey, a facility that will play a large role in SRI's expansion in Europe."
